Local Artist, Benjamin Jett Perez age 8

My son came to me and asked to be on my blog as an artist and I was more than happy to oblige. Please forgive me tearing up a bit in the video…this was completely unscripted and he said some very loving and soulful things.

My son has dealt with bullies before and has overcome some self esteem issues by diving into art and being creative. He is a great source of inspiration for me. He strives to help others and has even started helping me plan a friendship club at his school. I know he will do great things. (His hero is also Walt Disney like his Momma!)

Here are some examples of his art:

Can’t wait to see what is next for this kid of mine!!!

Fall Mini Sessions and Photographing Kids

Hello! It is mid-September in the central valley and it is finally getting cooler outside (82 degrees, wow its practically winter!!! Someone tell Jon Snow!). The change in seasons is getting me VERY excited for my upcoming Fall Mini Sessions.

I obviously need to make marketing material to promote things like mini sessions and events and for that I require models. I have my own 8 year old handy so I use him for a lot of test shoots and he isn’t always thrilled. “I have to wear this shirt and stand still again? Ugh Mom why?” is the typical response when I beg him to help me out.  He is a sweet kid though and usually by the 36th time I ask he says yes and even tries to smile.  The results are adorable and make my heart melt.

What you don’t see are the insane amount of bad photos I go through to get the one perfect shot of my kid genuinely smiling and enjoying himself.

Here are some outtakes:

As you can see the looks of annoyance and the shots where he’d rather dance around being goofy are less than desirable from a professional marketing standpoint. But as a Mom, they’re memories and I will appreciate having these to keep. Getting a kid, any kid, to stand still and look natural and happy is difficult and I commend any photographer who accomplishes it. I happen to be pretty great with kids so I am lucky enough to get plenty of great shots during most of my sessions with families.  If you’re starting out and feel frustrated just remember that it takes time and patience. I often tell the kids to shake out their sillies and let them do some fun shots as well ( “Give me your best crazy face!” )

Anyway, I had a great time this past weekend working with my family to get my Fall sessions set up.

Here is a coupon for the session:

I hope to see some of you at my Fall Mini Sessions, they will be running September 25th through October 30th. Fall is my favorite season and I love capturing families in the midst of it all. Pumpkins, crunchy leaves, golden sunsets and scarves. How could you not love Fall?

I will leave you with the shot from my test shoot that describes both of the guys in my life best:

59 Days of Code, Fresno 2017

So at the end of August I went to 59 Days of Code here in Fresno to check it out and see what the tech community was up to. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that we had a lot of Agriculture related tech out at the event and I was fortunate enough to meet and speak to some of these people and learn about their projects and apps.

As you know this blog is very new and I am still learning all the cool, fun ways to edit videos…..which also means I am still NOT great at it and rely on some very basic editing tools via my iPhone. I plan to study up on some programs and with time I hope my Vlogs will get better! If you have any comments, tips, advice or constructive criticism I’d be happy to hear it!
